| Tellurex Corporation Awarded Nanotechnology Research Grant
June 23, 2006
Tellurex Corporation, a manufacturer of thermoelectric cooling and power generation modules headquartered in Traverse City, Michigan, recently received a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant after a very successful Phase I research program. SBIR is a highly competitive program that encourages small businesses to explore innovative technological projects. The $750,000, two-year grant is funded through the Department of Defense, Office of Naval Research. While leading the research, Tellurex Corporation is partnering with Michigan State University's Department of Chemistry, Michigan Technological University's Institute of Materials Processing, and Sandia National Laboratories. |
Tellurex research into "Nanostructure - Enhanced Bulk Thermoelectric Materials" holds the promise of greatly improving the conversion efficiency of heat to electrical power. This solid-state energy conversion could have significant impact on the fuel efficiency of vehicles and industrial processes and could power silent, micro power generators using virtually any fuel. Nanostructure research involves working with molecular building blocks that have physical dimensions smaller than 100 nanometers (billionths of a meter). Charles Cauchy, Tellurex President and founder, is excited about the potential applications of this new technology. "Our solid state power generation technology has great potential in automotive, industrial, military and consumer markets with applications in waste heat harvesting, remote power generation, and battery augmentation or replacement." |
Tellurex Corporation is a world leader in solid-state thermoelectric power generation and cooling technology. Tellurex was the first small business in the United States to win the prestigious U.S. Navy Best Manufacturing Practices Award. Tellurex has also received the U. S. Small Business Administration Director's Award (for excellence in government contract performance) and the Michigan Builders Award, presented by the Governor for excellence in expanding high tech industry in Michigan. Tellurex Corporation recently occupied a new facility in Traverse City, Michigan, and supports a sales office in Southfield, Michigan. |
